Today marks 1 month 27 days till I leave for my internship in Mombasa, Kenya. I get to go be apart of the group Elective Africa which provide both medical internships and volunteer opportunities to multiple locations in Africa. I get the opportunity to be apart of the Physician Assistant internship at Coast Provincial General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya. This is the second largest hospital in Kenya. While I am there I will be following Doctors and Physician Assistants and assisting in minor procedures. This internship is going to be exposing me to many different areas of the medical field because I get to do rotations in different areas. The areas I am interested in are general medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology. I am very excited to dip my toes into these fields and experience international and rural medicine.
I have a little less than 2 months to go. There is a lot of preparing I need to do such as vaccines and preparing all the supplies I need to bring. As my departure date draws closer I am starting to get a little nervous but I know this experience is going to change my life and be such an eye opener to health care and Medicine outside of the United States. I plan to blog everyday about my days' experience. I hope to give everyone back home a glimpse of what I get to experience.
